The Artist

Self Portrait Studio ShotDean Vigyikan was born in Cleveland, OH and grew up in Western New York, studying art through private instruction and receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with honors from Rochester Institute of Technology.  Since then he has built a career in the visual arts ranging from traditional painting to digital illustration and design.

More recently, Dean has discovered his innate penchant for sculpture and has added this art form to his long-standing tradition as a painter.  His artwork has been collected by patrons across the United States and can be found on the covers of books, music CD’s, T-shirts, magazines, advertisements and more.

Encouraged from an early age by his parents and family, Dean began nurturing and developing his talents during childhood.  Inspired by many of the giants of art history, he has been especially influenced by the painting techniques of William Adolphe Bouguereau, John Singer Sargent, and John William Waterhouse.  His sculptural influences include Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Antonio Canova, and Auguste Rodin.  Stylistically, Dean is a contemporary realist, drawing heavily upon natural subject matter and expressing his vision with vigor and spontaneity.

Among the qualities of Dean’s paintings, noticed by those who have seen his work in person, is the dynamic and tactile brushwork with which he renders his compositions, as well as the richness and harmony of the colors he employs.  Many express particular delight in his sculptures for their level of detail and sense of grandeur.  One of the most frequent observations made regarding the artist’s repertoire concerns his expansive range of subject matter, all of which he handles with confidence and facility.

Selected as an international competition winner, Dean’s artwork has received multiple awards and been exhibited in juried shows on the local, state and national levels, as well as a number of solo exhibitions.  He has also proven a popular lecturer and demonstrator of art technique to other artists, and has served as judge for fine art competitions.  As an artist, Dean favors allowing his work to do the talking, without excessive peripheral explanation.  The power of representational art, he feels, is that it encourages the artist to meld his personal sensibilities with the mastery of the Divine Creator, resulting in a uniquely beautiful collaborative expression.

“Dean Vigyikan is able to capture the essence of his subjects, making the artwork seem to come to life.  The art piece that I commissioned is exactly what I had hoped would be achieved.  I couldn’t be happier with this beautiful piece of art or the professionalism with which Dean conducted himself.”  – D.A. Utah

“Dean is one of the finest artists I have ever come across, and I trust him entirely for all my artistic design, whether it is my logo, business cards or CD cover art.  He has an amazing ability to portray the essence of what I am trying to convey, and his work has been a wonderful addition to so many of my projects.”  – G.C. Wyoming

“I have been exceptionally pleased at Dean Vigyikan’s ability to use his skill, talent, and intuition in providing me with the excellent illustrations he created for my book.  He was able to read the text I had written and transfer the ideas and emotions of what I had written into an almost perfect artistic interpretation of my content.  Every review I have received on my book has mentioned the impressive art work by Dean.  He is an extremely versatile artist.  His talent spans the spectrum from fine art that is so precise it almost looks like the real object all the way to animation-like illustrations that are rich in emotional expression.”  – M.D. Ontario

“Dean Vigyikan delivers! He is more than willing to make sure that he gets what you want in a work of art. He helped translate my thoughts for what I wanted in a custom piece. The communication part went smoothly, which for me is something important. Future projects with Dean Vigyikan are definitely in the cards”  – A.W. Arizona

“Dean’s painting of my pets, I love it.  Their souls held by paint on canvas – the joy, the moment, the mischief, my dogs!”  – M.J. New York

“Dean truly is a gifted artist. I was moved when I saw how he captured my [dog]. The icing on the cake is his integrity. …he kept in touch with updates on where my picture stood in the queue. It was well worth the wait!”  – W.S. Ontario

“If you are looking for high quality work from a creative genius, then look no further.  Dean has assisted us with a variety of projects from logo designs to book cover illustrations.  We have ALWAYS been impressed with his talent and give him our highest recommendation.”  – C.M. Utah

“Wonderful ability to create new concepts in art.  A unique style with special attention to detail. Great imagination in reality, fiction, humor and satire.  Ability to disproportion characters in a manner to reflect a message about the subject at hand.  His works can reflect a charming array of fantasy artworks as well as a creative mix of reality and fiction.  A very creative artist.”                     – B.K. Nevada

“I was fortunate to have Dean referred to me by a friend and I am so glad I connected with him!  I had a special project I needed a nice logo for and Dean was able to create exactly what I had envisioned.  Being an artist myself I discovered it is necessary to have someone else create my logo for me.  They require a special eye and talent for knowing what displays well on all formats.  I shared photographs of the conch shell I wanted used in the design and he created a wonderful complete logo.  It is still my favorite and looks great on everything.  I have a tremendous amount of respect for Dean’s talent.  He is one of the most well rounded artists I know.”  – J.R. Florida

“I have admired Dean’s paintings and sculptures for many years.  Recently I asked him if he would paint a miniature picture for me (dimensions of one inch to one foot).  He said yes and he did.  I now have a delightful woodland scene painting by Dean in my miniature art studio.  It is exactly what I wanted and I love it.”  – H.B. Pennsylvania

“Viewers enjoyed Vigyikan’s nature-oriented fantasy impressions captured in life-like beauty.   … [Particular sculptures] represent the artist’s superb craftsmanship in delineating the human form, whether in bronze or resin.                                                                                                            The pictures include a varied display of subjects:  lovely models in repose, fairies with gossamer wings, dignified animals in their natural habitat, the thrills of rodeo competition, and majestic landscapes, all rendered in rich colors to dazzle and please the eye.”  – from a Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center review by Carl Thiel, New York

“Hi Dean, I wanted to send you a note to let you know how pleased I am with the painting ‘Restful Hour.’  I was watching the painting for a little while before I bought it and am blessed to be the owner.  It is actually my very first original painting and I love it.”  – G.B. Delaware

“I have two of Dean’s paintings hanging up in my home. I’ve never for a moment regretted purchasing them and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I love the loose brush strokes, the muted yet striking colors and the mysterious expressions of the subjects in both of these paintings. What’s more, they’re a perfect compliment to the decor in my home and I’m often asked about them by guests. They’ve proven to be excellent conversation pieces.                                                   I’ve kept these paintings on display for roughly five years and so far haven’t noticed any discoloration or fading; they’re still as vibrant as the day I purchased them.”  – W.T. Utah

Faith & Testimony

I‘d like to take a moment amid sharing my artistic expressions to share a morsel of the faith that drives most of what I do. My faith is centered in the Lord Jesus Christ and his gospel as taught anciently by prophets and apostles in the Old and New Testaments. Also, it has been an enormous blessing in my life to have learned that Jesus Christ indeed made an appearance on the American continent following his crucifixion and resurrection at Jerusalem. The account of this marvelous event, as well as those leading up to and following it, is contained in the ancient record known as the Book of Mormon. This account, written by the early inhabitants of the Americas, was translated by a modern day prophet named Joseph Smith to stand as a second witness, along with the Holy Bible, testifying together that Jesus Christ is the living Son of the living God, and is the redeemer of the world. The Book of Mormon is a book of inspired scripture to which I have turned again and again, in conjunction with the Bible, as a source of divine guidance in my life. I know that it is true, and given of God, because the Lord has told me, by the Holy Ghost that it is true. The Holy Ghost can teach us truth if we are sincere and receptive, in a way that is more sure even than seeing with our eyes or hearing with our ears. The Book of Mormon contains a promise that if you or I will study it and sincerely ask God whether it is true, he will manifest the truth of it to us by the power of the Holy Ghost. I have received that witness on many occasions, and now share it with you along with an invitation to seek these things out and find out for yourself whether they are true. If they are true, and I have learned that they are, it means that God has not ceased speaking with man on the earth. In fact, he loves us such that he has again sent living prophets and twelve apostles among us today, following the original pattern of his Church anciently, along with modern scripture to guide us to peace in this life and eternal life in the world to come. I invite you to contact me if you have comments or questions about this or any other contents of this web site. You can also learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by visiting their websites, or
